The day begins with a short stroll across the piazza to Orvieto’s cathedral, built with alternating bands of dark-green and white stone. Inside we will see the magnificent 15th century frescoes in the Chapel of the Madonna di San Brizio depicting scenes from the Last Judgement and the Apocalypse.
From Orvieto we will travel by private bus to Villa Lante in Bagnaia to amble through another of Italy's fine gardens, this one built for two cardinals, a classic example of Renaissance formal garden design with lovely fountains. The drive continues through scenic rolling hill country to Villa Farnese at Caprarola, a little-known masterpiece of Renaissance art and architecture built for another cardinal, before returning to Orvieto.
