After a leisurely start to the day we will drive to Pienza via the scenic Montepulciano route. Along the way we will stop in to visit the unique 16th century, centrally planned Sanctuary of the Madonna of San Biagio, near Montepulciano.
After a group lunch nearby, a local guide will lead us on a walk around Pienza, a papal urban planning commission. We will be introduced to the work of Bernardo Rossellino, architect of the town’s main square, cathedral and palaces.
Our accommodation for the next three nights is a small, family run hotel with a restful garden and swimming pool in the Tuscan countryside.
At sunset we will meet for a group dinner in the hotel’s restaurant, from where views extend across the hills to Siena, a short distance away.
